La Colpa

One of the nice perks of working here is that Kerry and I get to go to some of the main attractions with the school.  La Colpa farm is one of them.  We attended a fifth grade field trip to La Colpa Farm which is in Cajamarca on the edge of the city.  The claim to fame is that the farmers call the cows in by name.  Essentially this trip would be akin to the kids going to the pumpkin farm mixed with an end of the year graduation trip for the fifth graders graduating from the primary school.

We started the morning watching the calling of the cows into the stalls which is a bit of a tourist thing.  I think when we arrived, they maybe brought them out of the stalls so that they could show us how they call them in.  We then walked up part of a mountain which was exhilarating and a lot of fun to share the experience with the kids.  We all struggled and felt the accomplishment of arriving at the top together.  After we descended the mountain, the kids got to go on some relatively rickety paddle boats and paddle around a lagoon.  This was a big hit with the kids.  A little after the paddling I realized that they don't provide life jackets and the lagoon is 6ft deep.  No one drowned and it is really status quo when it comes to safety around Peru.

Here are some pictures chronicling the event.

Oh by the way as I write this at 7:30 in the morning, I am looking out my office window and a herd of about 15 cows just were driven down the road.  Just a normal happening here in Cajamarca!!

On the bus!

Welcome to La Colpa!

Eating a cookie with Manjar Blanco..  Yum.... Some needed calories before the hike...

The stalls for the cows.

The church.  Every farm needs a church.
