Phewwwww, Now....

Kerry and I are preparing for yet another move. In August, we will be moving to San Pedro Sula (SPS), Honduras. SPS will be the first place we live in Central America. I spent the winter searching for my next job and found a job in an international school called, Escuela Internacional Sampedrana. It is an international school with 1500 students set in the foothills of the Merendón mountains in the department on Cortés. The campus is beautiful and the students are very nice and speak English at an almost native level.  I will be the Dean of Academics in charge of the AP Capstone program, teaching strategies professional development, and an internship program that I have to have ready to go by the end of the year.

Golf in SPS!
It will be a bit of a transition for me considering that I haven't worked in high school yet and I haven't taught since 1996. :) I guess I will be a little ahead of Kerry as she hasn't ever taught. We will both teach the same class. I will have 10th grade students and Kerry 11th grade students. We will teach the AP Seminar class for the first time in the school. We both are looking forward to the experience.

So we are now in full transition mode. We have moved a bunch of our things to Jenny and John's house and have them stored there until July 23rd when they will be packed and shipped to our house in SPS.
Our stuff ready to move to Honduras
In the meantime, we are heading to Tommy's house today, the cottage on Monday, training in Baltimore the following week and the cottage for the final two weeks before the move on July 29th. Oh yeah, and we are visiting friends in Rhinelander during those final weeks after training as well.

So that is the update. I will begin posting some of my favorite pictures to this site. I will also begin a transition away from Facebook. I just feel like it is all getting too big and I am too connected to the website and I shouldn't be so connected to anything that much. I am going to try to continue to be in contact with friends and family through this website and I haven't decided yet how exactly I am going to post the pictures. I feel like this is a good forum or I might make a more private website. Once I figure it all out I will send a notification to all friends and family as to where to find me.

The transition will be slow, but I hope to make it so that I am able to keep in contact with everyone easily. It might take a bit more work to stay connected, but our friendships are worth it.

Finishing the Huanchaco Vacation

Before we left Huanchaco, we took a walk along the beach and in the town.  We also had lunch before heading to the bus station for the return trip to Cajamarca.  Here are some pictures.

Two New Packer Fans!!

Don't let the confused looks fool you, they are really excited about their new team!!

The Packers, Snyders Pretzels, Jays, Inca Cola and something else that I can't pronounce that look very similar to potato chips.  What could be better?  It was an old game but, they don't need to know that.  : ) They totally helped me with my spanish, because we are on the same level.

Torch Parade, the 18th Anniversary, the Green Bay Packers, and another walk!

18th Anniversary
We had a nice long 18th Anniversary celebration in our colosseum.  The Green Bay Packers made their entrance in the High Andes of Peru!

This guy forgot his tie for the anniversary celebration, and I just happened to have one for him to wear.  He was a lead in our celebration skit.  After the skit, he gave me the tie back and I wore it the rest of the day!  Go Pack!!!  Here he is on stage with the Packer tie!

The anniversary celebration was a big success and a lot of fun.  Here is a picture below of our whole primary school except for our fourth and first graders.

On to the Torch Parade!
You might ask yourselves, does he really mean torches, I mean there are a bunch of little kids?  No of course I don't mean real torches, just candles in highly flammable candle holders.  Here are Kerry and I with our torches.

Here are some of the children with their torches!!

My Superintendent and his Wife with their torch!!

Once the dark settles in we all take our torches and march around the school grounds in the dark with a marching band, afterwards

we have fireworks and food!!!
Who can argue with torches, fireworks and food!!!!

Today Kerry and I walked back through the fair and up into the hills.  We saw an alpaca, the hills and afterward, I found a guy sharpening knives outside a restaurant and I asked him if he could come by the house; he did and sharpened five knives for $3.60.

Check out the cool portable knife sharpening contraption!!

Tomorrow we will have a Packer Party at the house for forty of our closest friends.  Interestingly people are not sure what to make of a party to watch a football game.  They are asking things like "so we come over and watch a football game?"  I say yes! and eat chili!  and drink beer!  Here is the chili.  Kerry has been making herself useful, I said that I was going to make the chili but like a good chef, all I had to do was assemble it.  Kerry did all the cutting and browning of meat for me.  I did have to season it which I think I did masterfully; we will see tomorrow.

The menu includes two dips, chips, pretzels, two chilis for halftime, and whatever anyone else brings.  The parties are bring a snack and something to drink affairs which is awesome!  Here is my chili being made right now!

We have been taken out and invited over to people's houses for different events and the best thing to take from all the events has been a window into their traditions and cultures.  Tomorrow we share ours: Green Bay Packer pride and traditions!
